Horatio's Garden
Horatio’s Garden is a place of tranquillity and beauty for patients at the Duke of Cornwall Spinal Treatment Centre. It is named in memory of Horatio Chapple.
The idea for a garden at the spinal centre was initiated by SSIT and a fundraising appeal was launched in 2009. Originally called the Jubilee Garden, the idea was part of the centre's 25th anniversary celebrations.
Following the tragic death of Horatio Chapple, and donations made in his memory, the garden was renamed. Horatio volunteered at the spinal centre in his school holidays and was inspired by the patients to study medicine. He conducted the research project that identified the patients' need for a garden.
Horatio's Garden is now a separate national charity and the future aim is to create beautiful gardens at other spinal centres in the UK.
